Each semester the Morris L. Hayhurst LaunchLab hosts multiple competitions with varying topics or industries in order to provide a chance for students to earn funding for their idea or product. These competitions provide a frame work for students to build a better understanding of their idea, have access to a community that can help them grow and continue to gain momentum with their business.

All competitions will be held virtually with zoom registration links to follow after each application process is finished. These competitions are also open to the public.

Agribusiness and Agritourism: Help Grow the Future of West Virginia!  

Agriculture is an important part of West Virginia’s future! Participate in this Agribusiness/Agritourism focused course to learn more about opportunities to grow out state through agriculture related businesses and tourism. You will work with a team of high school students, college students, and faculty to create and share new ideas.  

Fashion and Design: Fashion with a Purpose  

Are you interested in fashion and design? Join faculty, college and high school students for a three-day on-campus course at the WVU Fashion Lab! You will learn and practice basic sewing and design skills and work with a team to design, market, and present ideas for making a difference in your community with a fashion related idea! 

March Idea Challenge: Social Entrepreneurship | Apply March 1 - 11
In-Person Competition | March 22 & March 31 | 5–7 PM

The Morris L. Hayhurst LaunchLab will be hosting the annual March Idea Challenge, with this year's focus: Social Entrepreneurship. This competition is an opportunity for any WVU student to pitch their idea to a panel of industry professionals and win funding! Your idea should include a solution to a social issue or a societal benefit. If you want to learn more about social entrepreneurship, stop in to the LaunchLab!

Top submissions that meet all requirements will pitch their ideas to judges in a semi-final competition on March 22 from 5-7 PM. The top presenters will advance to the final round for a chance to win funding on March 31 from 5-7 PM. $5000 in resources will be awarded.

April Arts Festival and Pitch Competition | Apply April 1 - 8
Virtual Festival & In-Person Competition | April 21 | 5–7 PM

The Morris L. Hayhurst LaunchLab will be hosting the 2nd annual April Arts Festival & Pitch Competition. This is an incredible opportunity for WVU artists to showcase their idea for any new work, innovation, or creation in the arts, and to then pitch that idea to a panel of industry professionals to win funding. $5000 in funding will be awarded.

All submitted festival videos will be posted for public voting April 11 - April 18. The festival entires with the most votes will then move on to the final round, held in-person on April 21. The applications have closed.
